What is a Canines
with a Cause Puppy Raiser? A
volunteer who fosters a Canines with a Cause puppy from 8 weeks
of age to approximately 12 to 18 months. These puppies have been carefully
selected after passing extensive temperament and physical testing
and have high potential to succeed as an Assistance Dog.

Help me get my steps in the right direction
If you..
-
are over 18 years old
-
are able to care for the puppy
during the day (staying at home or able to bring puppy
to work/school daily)
-
live in a home with access to
a fenced backyard in the Ottawa area
-
have transportation means to
attend organized training sessions
-
are able to socialize the puppy
with other safe dogs, people, and situations
- have no animals or no more than
1 dog/cat in your home

What are the responsibilities
of a Canines with a Cause Puppy Raiser? To
provide a loving, healthy, secure and overall quality care for
the Canines with a Cause puppy To commute and attend regular
training sessions with the Canines with a Cause trainers.To complete and submit a Progress
Report on a monthly basis.
What are the benefits
gained by a Canines with a Cause Puppy Raiser? Giving
a tempo rarely home to a Canines with a Cause puppy can be extremely
rewarding. A quality care given to one of our pups makes the World
of difference in later on becoming a successful Service Dog. Thus,
being a tremendous influence in the potential success of the dog
who later on will be able to enhance the life of someone who can
truly benefit from his/her assistance and companionship. Puppy
raisers are blessed with a playful and loving puppy for approximately
a year and can truly feel part of this amazing process. They are
active participants during the Graduation ceremony when they deliver
the fully trained dog to their recipient to symbolize their great
efforts in the process.

Volunteer occasional Fosters also needed
Short term foster homes are also needed for occasional weekends, weeks, or up to a month when the puppy raiser may be unavailable. If you are interested in becoming an occasional foster caregiver, please contact us 613 882-5923.
