Canines with a Cause volunteers are a very important asset of the organization.

Our Volunteers have special access to an Online Newsgroup where latest information, especial events, new ideas, suggestions, knowledge and expertise is shared. This helps create a sense of "team" working towards the same goal.

Volunteer Position: Lawyer/Legal expertise
Hours: 1h. to 3 h. per month
Requirements: Must be a Graduate from Law school
Responsibilities: To provide advise to Canines with a Cause board of Directors on legal issues.

Volunteer Position: Grant Writing/Fundraising Expert
Hours: 3 h. per month approximately
Requirements: Background experienced in grant writing and organizing fundraising campaigns. Already familiar with details requiring attention in organizing large events. Must be a positive, enthusiastic and energetic person
Responsibilities: To assist during grant writing projects and to help organize small to large fundraising events for Canines with a Cause throughout the year.

Hours: On occasion to set up web tools for our website
Requirements: Experience in setting up secure online transaction system
Responsibilities: To set up a secure online donation system; online purchasing of promotional products and online survey.

Volunteer Position: Media/Publicity/Communications Expert
Hours: On occasional basis through out the year
Requirements: Experience in media protocol. Good diplomacy in dealing with public and media. Good communication skills.
Responsibilities: To represent the organization and its values when dealing with the media and public. To help promote the need for support for our cause.

Volunteer Position: Printing Process Expert
Hours: On occasional basis through out the year
Requirements: Experience in layout and printing protocol and file settings as well as print proofing jobs. Experience in professional print services.
Responsibilities: To assist in the preparation and layout of printing material for Canines with a Cause such as Fundraising Calendar, Cards, Bookmarks, Brochure, etc.

Volunteer Position: Multimedia &/or Video Producer
Hours: On occasional basis through out the year
Requirements:

Experience in setting up digital interactive presentations, knowledge in proper file arrangement when creating CD with presentation, CD burning, etc.

Experience in Video editing and producing.

Responsibilities: To help prepare and organize promotional material in form of CD or Video (10-15 min) for distribution to interested individuals, groups, companies, and potential sponsors. Also to be shown during information/awareness sessions.

Volunteer Position: Public speaker for community awareness
Hours: 1 h. per month (or more if interested)
Requirements: Charismatic individual with experience with speaking to the public and large groups. Willing to learn about Service Dogs and keen on creating awareness around the community on what Service Dogs are about and the benefits they bring to their partner.
Responsibilities: To arrange presentations to groups, companies and/or potential sponsors in the community regarding the following:
  • what Service dogs are and their benefits
  • what Canines with a Cause is about
  • how mobility assistance dogs are trained
  • how to apply for our services
  • how to help Canines with a Cause

Presentations would be followed by a short video clip of Service Dogs in training and working.

Volunteer Position: Sewing
Hours: On occasional basis through out the year
Requirements:

Experience in sewing material in some cases thick.

Responsibilities:

To sew puppy capes and full grown dog capes. To sew cooling vest for Service Dogs for summer time. Also help design and sew "graduation doggie hats". Sew for projects to make doggie blanquets, dog coats/vests etc.

Volunteer Position: Puppyraiser
Hours:

Commitment of approximately 12 to 18 months

Requirements:

  • Puppyraiser must be over 18 years old
  • Be available to care for the puppy during the day
  • Live in a home with access to a fenced backyard in the Ottawa area
  • If living with family, have the rest of the family members' support
  • Have transportation means to attend regular puppy classes and obedience classes on a weekly basis
  • Socialize the puppy with other safe dogs, people, and situations
  • Bring the puppy in public areas such as public transportation, malls, offices, restaurants, etc.
Responsibilities:

This is a very intensive and rewarding job. To provide quality care for the puppy from approximately 8-weeks of age until the dog is ready to enter the advanced training program which is approximately at 18 months of age.

Volunteer Position: Foster Caregiver
Hours: Commitment from 6 months to 1 year
Requirements:

  • Foster Caregiver must be over 18 years old
  • Be available to care for the Assistance Dog in-training during the day
  • Live in a home with access to a fenced backyard in the Ottawa area
  • If living with family, have the rest of the family members' support
  • Have transportation means to attend regular training sessions on a weekly basis
  • Be willing to do daily training with the CWAC dog as recommended by our trainer/s
  • Socialize the dog with other safe dogs, people, and situations
  • Bring the CWAC dog in public areas regularly such as public transportation, malls, offices, restaurants, etc.
Responsibilities:

This is a very intensive and rewarding job. To provide quality care for the CWAC dog in advanced training period from approximately 6 months to 1 year, the dog undergoes a specialized advanced training program which requires hands on training exercises from the CWAC Foster caregivers. Volunteer Position: Drivers
Hours: It can vary
Requirements:
  • Have means of transportation
  • Have vehicled insured
  • Have a clean and current Ontario Drivers License
  • Live in Ottawa
  • Provide bathing & grooming services (if possible, able to pick up CWAC puppy / dog at puppy raisers house)
Responsibilities:

Occasional Volunteer drivers:

All driving requirements would be in Ottawa-Carleton area.

Driving requirements would be on occasion as per needed basis such as picking up and dropping off of one of the puppies/dogs in our program, or their dog food, bringing equipment and/or documents related to the organization

Hours: When available / during preparation of fundraisers and/or during the actual fundraising event
