Angels Within makes CWAC the charity
of their choice! On September 10th. CWAC was invited to do a small presentation at a gathering organized by Angels Within and White Light in celebration of the International Angels Day. Angels Within offered all their donations collected on that event to CWAC. We are very appreciative in particular with Brian who in numerous occasions has found ways to support our charity. From donating his services during past fundraising events for donations to our charity, to many coupons/certificates donated to several silent auctions. Recently Angels Within released a wonderful new meditation CD. A portion of the sales of such CD will be directed to CWAC. With that announcement, Brian mentioned that CWAC has been selected as the charity of choice in their ongoing effort to contribute to the community. Many thanks for all you do!

Ottawa Public Library - Centennial
Branch Children's presentation
July 5, 2006
CWAC once again was pleased to provide 2 presentations to groups of children (5-8 years old and 8+) at the Centennial Branch Ottawa Public Library on July 5th.
The children had very interesting questions and learn how to recognize a working dog, how they can do their part by not distract these special dogs while they are at work, and to never offer them food as these dogs follow very strickt diets. The children also received a fun activity educational booklet to take home.
Special thanks to Andrea J.P. Gowing, Children's Programs
and Public Service Assistant
at the Ottawa Public Library Centennial Branch who organized the
presentation and craft activities for the children.
Also thank you to the CWAC Volunteers, Doris & Peter who came along with Celeste & Choya and little helper, Kate Brazier who assisted her mom during the presentation.

CWAC Volunteers - 'DREAM
TEAM' raising funds for Rick Hansen Man In Motion
Foundation
June 11, 2006
CWAC is very fortunate to count on the wonderful volunteers we have. Not only are tirelessly dedicated to CWAC cause but they also find time to help other very worthy causes and often participate in multiple fundraiser and events and help raise funds for others.
Just recently, a group of our volunteers decided to call themselves the 'DREAM TEAM' to use when they register for activities such as Rick Hansen's Walk-a-thon. Our volunteer Sylvie came up with this name and after voting it was welcomed by the rest of them. Even T-shirts were made and are planning to be used when they participate in future public events.
This name has a very special meaning:
DREAM TEAM: Dog Raised Especially Assisting Mankind - Together Everyone Accomplishes More
Our hats go off to the CWAC Dream Team! Who definitely know how to have a good time while helping others.
A few words from the Director of the CWAC Puppy Raising Program, Julie More:
CWAC Dream Team assembled bright and early for the Rick Hanson walk-a-thon. The Dream Team consisted of Sylvie with Beau and Cargo, Doris with Celeste, Diane with Maia and me with the famous Nellie. Our team raised about $170- for the walk-a-thon. We did 4.5 km. The pups were great.

CWAC Van finally has the
signage!
June 14, 2006
CWAC received last year a very significant donation of a vehicle for the charity. A minivan Toyota Sienna was donated by an anonymous donor and it has proven to be an incredible asset to the organization.
Just recently, we had the signage done for the van, thanks to a wonderful couple, Karen & Bob P. who specifically indicated they wanted to donate funds for that purpose.
Today, CWAC has a much better visibility in our community
thanks to the wonderful donors plus the assistance from Mitch
Ghosn, Design Manager of

PURINA comes through with quality dog food for CWAC dogs!
May 2006
PURINA's
support with the donation of quality dog food for the dogs in
our program is of great significance.
Earlier in May, we received the news that PURINA was offering to supply enough food for the dogs in our program to last until the end of the year. This was such an exciting moment for us at CWAC!
This very important donation was welcomed with arms wide open. CWAC rented a Hertz truck and headed out to Mississauga to pick up the loads of food.
Our most sincere thank you to PURINA, and its wonderful people including Riad Mohammed, Internal Communications, Nestlé Purina PetCare (Head Office) & Suzanne Owens also from Nestlé Purina PetCare.
A special thank you also goes to a good friend, Sandy T. who helped with the communication between PURINA & CWAC.
Also, our special thanks to the kind people at Hertz at 881 St. Laurent Blvd that were able to provide us the rental of the truck at a special discount for our charity.
Thank you message also to the CWAC volunteers who helped from sharing the long drive (Peter P.), to unloading and storing the dog food (Sylvie, Peter, Cathy, Julie, Mike, Karen, Bob and more).

'CWAC Supporting Kevin Frost All the Way!'
May 13 2006
Despite the weather, an enthusiastic group of CWAC volunteers participated in the Lions Foundation Orleans, Walk-a-thon in support of Kevin Frost and this quest for the Paralympics. Kevin is a tremendous athlete, who suffers from type 2 Usher's Syndrome. A rare genetic disorder that causes progressive hearing and vision loss. Kevin has 10 % hearing and 5 % tunneled vision. Holding 3 Gold, 2 Silver and 4 Bronze medal for just last season against able bodied speed skaters, Kevin's goal is to have deaf/blind speed skating recognized as a Paralympic sport. You can view an incredible video clip that will help you experience what would be like to go around a lap with Kevin.

FER-PAL Construction
LTD. comes forward with a Partial Sponsorship for puppy Maia
April 2006
The wonderful people at FER-PAL Construction LTD. have come forward with a Paw-sitive Paw forward! to support the expenses of our puppy in training Maia.
Thanks to FER-PAL Construction LTD, our puppy in training, Maia will have many of her health/veterinarian related costs covered for as well as the team training related expenses when she is matched with her future human partner.
In appreciation for such generous gesture, CWAC will include FER-PAL Construction LTD logo on Maia's puppy cape to ensure that wherever she goes in the community everybody knows that FER-PAL Construction LTD is proudly supporting her and is behind her helping ensure she makes it to Graduation! As well, FER-PAL Construction LTD will be invited to the Graduation ceremony when all will come together for a special event. They will receive an appreciation plaque and framed picture of Maia. Their support will be also mentioned during public presentations.
This financial support could not have been possible without the efforts of one of our graduates, Pina, who went out of her way to help CWAC. Thank you, Pina!

NOTE: Timeline and methods of payment of such amounts could be negotiated to best suite both parties. When a sponsor selects a particular dog in the CWAC to sponsor, they receive regular updates on how the particular dog is progressing in the program and depending on the level of sponsorship, they may be entitled to have their logo on the particular puppy/dog from our program to help create awareness around the community of their wonderful support to the CWAC program. They are also invited to the graduation ceremony which helps bring it all into perspective at an emotional time when everybody celebrates the success of another CWAC team. Even though the sponsorship might be identified for a particular dog in the program, the donation itself goes into a common fund to help support all the costs involved with all the dogs owned by the CWAC program and any additional costs directly related into running the services we offer to the community. CWAC group training session
with OPP officers
March 15, 2006
We had recently received the assistance of OPP officers John & Gilles who kindly volunteered their time to help socialize the dogs in our program by undergoing a number of exercises.
These sessions are extremely important to allow the CWAC puppies and dogs to recognize someone in uniform as a positive experience, in particular in case of a real life emergency situation.
The session took place at the K9 Common Scents facility that has recently been offered to CWAC for use during our weekly group training sessions.
We want to thank both Alex & Patty from K9 Common Scents as well as officers Gilles & John from OPP.

Update on the 1st Annual CWAC Trivia
Night Fundraiser
February 18, 2006
CWAC 1st ever Trivia Night Fundraiser was a total success. Thanks to the many who collaborated in building teams, collecting pledges, obtaining prizes for the raffle, baking, volunteers organizing it, and of course our Pizza sponsor for the event, Boston Pizza for ensuring everybody was well fed. A great applause to the Master of Ceremony, Louise Ouellette-Bolduc, who did a fantastic job.
It was thanks also to BC Guide Dogs from British Columbia, that we decided to go ahead with this fundraiser, after they encouraged us to do so, and shared with CWAC the steps on how to organize one.
The access to a beautiful hall room and large kitchen also made a huge difference as it was perfect for the event. United Church of Bells Corners provided it to us as they have in the past for some of our public educational presentations.
Check the rest of those who made this possible thanks to their support!

Career change for CWAC puppy
in-training. Chica has a new
home
February 2006
An unfortunate reality that organizations training assistance dogs often face is the need to early retire some of the dogs in their program. In the best of circumstances 1 out of 4 or 5 dogs make it to graduation. A working dog must be in top health condition and have the best temperament and disposition to work in public.

Our Chica, at 6 months old, happens to be one. Although she has tremendous temperament and disposition, her left hip happens to be a bit loose. Keeping her at her optimal weight and ensuring she receives proper exercise will be key for her to a good healthy life. Working dogs must have excellent health condition to be able to give his/her 100 %. Therefore a tough decision was made to place Chica up for adoption.
![]() |
A loving caring family was selected and Chica took to them in an instant. Chica is very smart girl. A Black Labrador Retriever who knows how to make it into your heart. |
We owed it to her to find the best home and we believe this was it.
We want to thank all the many families who presented their applications for her adoption. It sure was a though decision!

February 14, 2006
CWAC was pleased to put together once more another educational presentation. This time for a wonderful group of Brownies in Orleans.
In the leader of the group's own words:
I just want to thank you and your team, for coming to our Unit and showing off what your wonderful dogs can do! The meeting was a success and I could tell the girls just LOVED the dogs. The girls were thrilled to be able to pet the dogs and learn more about them. Thank you once again.

CWAC TV Interview with Daytime
program from Rogers TV
January 11, 2006
CWAC was pleased to accept the invitation to an interview from the producers of Daytime live program. Hosts Derick Fage and Melanie Serjak were wonderful and took great interest in sharing with the community what Canines with a Cause is about, and how others can help our charity so we can continue being able to help others who come to us in need of an assistance dog.
CWAC founder, Miriam Mas presented Rogers TV representatives a framed certificate of appreciation for all the wonderful support in creating awareness in our community regarding the work we do. It is thanks to a previous TV interview with the program Talk Ottawa that one of our current graduates heard about our charities and others contacted us with interest to volunteer and support us. We are grateful to them for providing the means to connect with all their viewers and be able to educate others on how these very special dogs help bring a life of greater independence to those who need them.

CWAC does another Educational
& Awareness presentation at Queenswood Public School
January 10, 2006
Viola Larkin, CWAC Puppy Raiser Supervisor was pleased to provide a presentation and demonstration at the Queenswood Public School in Orleans to share with the children how these special dogs help others.
Their teacher had read to them the book Zoom prior to the presentation which is a wonderful story by Robert Munsch about Lauretta and her new power wheelchair. Later, Viola shared with them about the real Lauretta, now a high school student, who received in 2005 one of the Canines with a Cause assistance dogs. They thought that was pretty cool!
