Foster

Canines With A Cause thrives because of our amazing foster families. These volunteers provide enrichment, training and a little extra love for CWAC dogs until they find a forever home. Fostering is an excellent way to get some extra dog-time, learn new skills and support shelter dogs and veterans in your community.

There are many ways to foster so you can choose what fits you best. We’ll be there every step of the way to help and provide encouragement, training and all the supplies you’ll need. All volunteers must attend an orientation and training before fostering CWAC dogs. In these training sessions you’ll learn skills to continue training, keep the dogs safe and have fun!

Being a CWAC foster dog parent is life changing and an amazing experience. For Tango, it was a great feeling providing him a temporary home because I gave him a fighting chance to be happy and be in a home. Fostering is also a way to help CWAC have more opportunities for other dogs to be service dogs.

Adopt

Canines With a Cause adoptable dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and assessed for behavior and personality traits. Some have received basic obedience training in our prison-based Pawsitive Healing or our Pawsitive Partnership programs. The dogs that we offer to the public for adoption are ones that we’ve deemed unsuitable for work as service dogs, which is a very stressful and highly skilled job for a dog to do. Our adoptable dogs are simply better suited to be great family pets or as therapy or emotional support dogs.

We do our best to make sure the dog will fit in their new home and all parties will benefit from the relationship. We do require a foster period before adoptions are final and ask that the dog be returned to CWAC if the dog can no longer stay with adopters.

Volunteer

Canines With a Cause would not be a successful nonprofit without the selflessness of our volunteers. Whether it’s helping spread our mission, starting a fundraiser, or helping our staff in person table events, everyone has a unique talent or skill to contribute!

There are many benefits to volunteering as well. It’s a great way to learn new skills, learn more about your local community, and build your resume. Studies show that helping others can actually improve our own well-being, both physically and mentally, and increase our overall sense of worth and purpose.

Give

Donations in kind are donations of stock directly to Canines With a Cause. These donations are often made to reduce or eliminate the amount of tax that needs to be paid on appreciated assets. The donor that makes the donation will get receipts from their financial Institution indicating that the donation has been made. Canines With a Cause will send an Official Tax Statement directly to the donor once the donation has been received by CWAC’s financial institution. There may be significant tax advantages for doing this.

A donor may be able to avoid federal estate and income tax on the investments increase in value while still taking any charitable donation deduction. For example, he or she paid $10 per share for 100 shares of stock which increases to $100 a share. Donation of this stock to the CWAC is recorded as $10,000 donation. The tax effect is that the donor (a) avoids taxation on the $9,000 gain while still (b) likely qualifying for a charitable donation deduction for the full $10,000.

Did you know tax deductible donations can be made in cash, stocks, bonds or securities?
